*In Syria, there are 10s of forgotten massacres that have not been documented, nor have they been reached by anyone on Syrian territory.

Al Sheikh Miskeen Massacre, in the province of Dara’a

Date of the Incident – 07.07.2012

*The town of Al Sheikh Miskeen is regarded amongst one of the most important towns in Horan. It is one of the important centre points for transportation, linking a number of Syrian provinces in the southern area (Damascus, Al Swaida, Al Qunaitra) as she lies in between Sahl Horan and the province of Dara’a. This town is also the focal point between Nawa, Ezre’, Abta’, Da’el and Al Sanemeyn. Sheikh Miskeen is about 22km away from Dara’a city, and there is a distance of about 80km from Damascus city. Its population reaches an approximate number of 40,000 thousand people.

Details of the incident:

*Assad forces besieged the town for two consecutive months and on Saturday 07-07-2012, Assad forces entered and attacked the town.

There are reports stating that an estimate of 80 cars entered the town, in addition to 20 civilian cars and a number of carrier buses, carrier members of Assad forces and thugs.

Assad troops worked on closing all the city, in order to prevent anyone from entering it or taking an exit. Once this was done, the shelling began using mortars and MB-Bs. This lead to the direct destruction of a number of homes – including Abu Bakr Al Sadeq mosque, after it was particularly targeted with a number of shells. This shelling, so violent, also led to the wounding of many civilians.

As this continued Assad forces dispersed, making their way to all areas of the city, in which they carried out a number of raids and searching of the homes of civilians. Assad forces went into home, stole people’s belongings, from money to jewellery. All motorbikes in the city were burnt by Assad forces, including a number of homes. As well as this, business shops were targeted and destroyed on the main roundabout and some columns were witnessed to fill the skies.

Furthermore, Assad forces made their way to Hamdi Hamdan School as they were told beforehand that this school contained shelters and a field hospital. They besieged the school and began to attack it with more than 30 artillery shells in a very random manner. This consequently led to the destruction of most sections of the school. The school was broken into after it had been besieged for more than an hour. Assad forces went into releasing a number of bombs are the shelters, killing all who was inside the school, including a doctor’s team and a number of injured civilians.

*We have been able to document the final number of deaths caused by the massacre. 25 members, their full names and pictures and videos included in this report, were killed in this massacre.

We, The Syrian Network of Human rights, seek to protect and defend human rights. We explicitly condemn this horrific massacre which is openly classified as a crime against Human Rights, along with the remaining massacres against the Syrian people – all of which have been committed by Assad forces. We hold the Syrian regime, the Commander in Chief of the Armed forces full and direct responsibility of the massacre. In addition to this, we also hold Russia, Iran and Hizbullah direct responsibility of the killing as they continue to provide the Syrian regime with weapons and money. We call for the United Nations and Security Council to take immediate action and speed to protect the Syrian people and to live up to their responsibilities. We urge them to accelerate their steps in referring all those involved in this massacre to the International Criminal Court.
