Copenhagen – 15 April 2011.

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network (EMHRN) is
deeply alarmed about the increasing number of severe human rights violations
committed by security forces against civilians and peaceful demonstrators in
Syria. After four weeks of unrest in the country, at least 200 people have been
killed, mainly by live ammunition fired by the security forces. The EMHRN has
also recorded the names of more than 700 persons who have been arbitrarily
detained.
