Statistical Analysis of Aleppo’s Victims During Oct 1, 2016 to Dec 14, 2016

During the period of October 1st, 2016 to December 14, 2016, the Damascus Center for Human Rights Studies (DCHRS) documented 1753 civilian victims, who were killed in Aleppo by Russian and Syrian regime forces. Among these civilians, there were 243 children and 120 women at a ratio of 14% and 9% respectively. As of December, extrajudicial killing began to take place and the number of victims that DCHRS was able to document is 82 victims.

Damascus Suburbs and Aleppo Provinces Recorded the Highest Number of Victims in December 2015

In December 2015 DCHRS documented 1,802 casualties, including 227 children and 189 women. 76% of those killed were civilians. The remaining 24% were combatants, armed rebels, and soldiers from different fighting factions. Women and children respectively made up 10% and 13% of the total number of war casualties.

In November 2015 DCHRS documented 1,427 casualties, including 164 children and 89 women. 77% of those killed were civilians. The remaining 25% were combatants, armed rebels, and soldiers from different fighting factions. Women and children respectively made up 6% and 11% of the total number of war casualties.

In April 2015, the DCHRS documented a provisional total of 1,617 casualties. 77% of those killed were civilians. The remaining 23% belonged to one of the fighting factions. Women and children respectively made up 9% and 14% of the total number of war casualties.

As the U.S.-led international coalition expands its attacks to include more Syrian areas, the Syrian regime has used the diversion of global media attention to perpetrate more crimes against Syrian civilians. On Tuesday the 25th of November 2014, the Syrian regime executed a horrific massacre against civilians in the ISIS stronghold of Raqqa. The city of Raqqa has been under ISIS control since the 12th of January 2014.

Assad’s Campaign of Retaliation: 42 Unarmed Civilians Die in Daraa and Aleppo

Days after an attack on civilians in the ISIS stronghold of Raqqa, the Syrian regime renewed its campaign against the residents and displaced Syrians in rebel-held territories. The Syrian regime targeted densely populated areas, including an aid distribution center. These attacks are part of a retaliatory campaign, which has previously been documented by the Damascus Center for Human Rights Studies (DCHRS). In response to military defeats, the Syrian regime systematically strikes civilians in rebel-held territories.
