The majority of their residents are hence loyal to the Assad regime. Due to its concrete support of the Syrian revolution, Assad thugs in the neighbouring villages, along with security forces loyal to the regime, repeatedly threatened to destroy Alfan Alshamali village. The Syrian Network for Human Rights has repeatedly raised warnings concerning reactions that we, as a small organisation and other humanitarian and relief organisations, cannot enter Syria and educate the residents about. We find this important as this will have a negative impact on the topics of co-existence and transitional justice.

In the context of an open war on the Syrian people and their towns and cities, along with squads travelling from one part to another – all planned strategically and headed by Bashar Al Assad, the village of Alfan Alshamali was next on the regime’s list. On Sunday 02.09.2012, tanks and soldiers loyal to the regime entered the village, where they began to shell the village violently, leading to the complete destruction of a number of homes. Many residents were killed whilst they were in their homes, as a result of the intense shelling.

As the next stage of the attack, the village was stormed by Assad thugs and forces, in which they looted and destroyed and burnt shops. The continued, killing livestock, including cows. This was a planned act of the regime, and attempt to spread fear and terror amongst the people. A deterrent was constituted due to the inability of the Syrian Army to deploy soldiers in all areas. The regime resorts to such policies to destructively intimidate those opposing it.

An eyewitness informed us that members of the Assad army grouped a number of young men of the village in the village’s square, in which they were openly fired at by Assad forces – killed in cold blood.

30 residents of this small village were killed by Assad forces, consisting of one woman and a number of her children were killed whilst in their house.
With the help of the residents of the village, we were able to document who was killed on that day, in addition to at least 50 injured civilians. The Assad regime has also taken hold of a number of residents of the village and now they fall under the missing category.

Below are the numbers, names, Age, the place they were killed in, their job, social status, number of family members, date of their death.

1-Reyad Alyawi Aljasim, 33, Alfan Alshamali, farmer, married, 3, 04.09.2012

2-Ahmad Alyawi Aljasim, 35, Alfan Alshamali, farmer, married, 4, 02.09.2012

3-Wardan Daham Aljasim, 27, Alfan Alshamali, employed, Single, breadwinner, 7, 04.09.2012

4-Hussein Dahaam Aljasim, 39, Alfan Alshamali, farmer, married, 5, 04.09.2012

5-Turkeya Mohammad Alhamoud, 41, Alfan Alshamali, Housewife, married, 6, 04.09.2012

6-Khalid Alyawi Aljasim, 44, Alfan Alshamali, farmer, married, 5, 02.09.2012

 7-Hasaan Ali Alkhleif, 41, Alfan Alshamali, self-employed, married, 6, 02.09.2012

8-Kan’aan Hasaan Alkhleif, 25, Alfan Alshamali, employed, Single, breadwinner, 6, 02.09.2012

9-Ali Hasaan Alkhleif, 27, Alfan Alshamali, employed, Single, breadwinner, 6, 02.09.2012

10-Abdallah Ali Alkhleif, 36, Alfan Alshamali, farmer, married, 6, 02.09.2012

 11-Abdulqahar Ali Alhleif, 33, Alfan Alshamali, self-employed, married, 5, 02.09.2012

12-Akram Mahmoud AlOmar, 28, Alfan Alshamali, takes care of livestock, single, breadwinner, 02.09.2012

 13-Zakareya Hussein Alhasoun, 26, Alfan Alshamali, self-employed, single, breadwinner, 15, 02.09.2012

14-Muhammad Khalid Alkhalefa, 25, Alfan Alshamali, farmer, single, breadwinner, 10, 02.09.2012

15-Nor Alden Obeid Alali, 27, Alfan Alshamali, farmer, single, breadwinner, 6, 02.09.2012

 16-Alaa Ali Alobeid, 28, Alfan Alshamali, self-employed, single, breadwinner, 10, 02.09.2012

17-Abdulkarem Ali Alobeid, 22, Alfan Alshamali, defected officer, single, breadwinner, 10, 02.09.2012

18-Hamaam Abdulqadaar Alroush, 24, Alfan Alshamali, farmer, single, breadwinner, 10, 04.09.2012

 19-Hussein Ezo Alroush, 25, Alfan Alshamali, self-employed, single, breadwinner, 11, 04.09.2012

20-Abdulrazaq Muhammad Alkhleif, 35, Alfan Alshamali, farmer, married, 5, 02.09.2012

 21-Fadi Muhammad Alkhleif, 33, Alfan Alshamali, self-employed, married, 4, 02.09.2012

 22-Ahmad Muhammad Alkhleif, 22, Alfan Alshamali, self-employed, single, breadwinner, 6, 02.09.2012

23-Ahmad Hussein Al Aloush, 48, Alfan Alshamali, self-employed, married to two, 20, 02.09.2012

24-Mone’am Abeed Al Ali, 25, Alfan Alshamali, farmer, single, breadwinner, 10, 02.09.2012

25-Salom Jasim Al Ahmad, 30, Alfan Alqebli, farmer, married, 3, 02.09.2012

26-Sarhaan Ali Alkhleif, 31, Alfan Alshamali, self -employed, married, 2, 02.09.2012

 27-Nasr Hussein Almaheemeed, 42, Alfan Alshamali, self-employed, married, 15, 02.09.2012

28-Abdullah Obeid Al Ali, 38, Alfan Alshamali, farmer, married, 5, 02.09.2012

29-Thaliji Khalaf Alobeid, 42, Alfan Alshamali, farmer, married, 7, 02.09.2012

 30-Hawyan Ne’mat Al Hawyan, 30, employed, married, 2, 04.09.2012

 *Attachments:
Videos and victims:
The child, Kan’aan Hasaan Alkhleif
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrMbURM8mMg

 The child, Ali Hasaan Alkhleif,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrMbURM8mMg

The victims of Alfan Alshamali massacre
http://youtu.be/xrMbURM8mMg
http://youtu.be/iZq-RX0lUcY

Sarhaan Alkhleif – a victim of Alfan Alshamali massacre
http://youtu.be/uds5L035VRQ

A video showing the dead bodies on the streets
http://youtu.be/DMBsjQNurW

Residents carry the bodies of the victims of the massacre so their funeral procession can be carried out.
http://youtu.be/lhfwjb3Leak

We, The Syrian Network of Human rights, seek to protect and defend human rights. We hold the Syrian regime, the Commander in Chief of the Armed forces full and direct responsibility of the massacre. We call for the United Nations and Security Council to take immediate action and speed to protect the Syrian people and to live up to their responsibilities.
