He is from Homs and lives in al-Hamra neighborhood. He had been one of the most prominent activists in the city of Homs; he filmed many footages and sometimes he had taken care of the live broadcasting device.

He contributed in and filmed the protests in al-Qalamoun University to be then put on the wanted list for the Syrian regime. He had been arrested at his university dorm room by Air Force Intelligence in Damascus on 16/11/2012. He had been brutally beaten and tortured.

Upon his release, he has become more persistent and determined for freedom.

He loves videography which he used to document crimes perpetrated by the regime, so he started filming protests in all dangerous places. In addition, he had filmed many important crimes like mortar and artillery shelling. Then he had filmed special operations by the Free Syrian Army because they trust his courage, patience and chivalry.

On 24/02/2012, Anas visited a friend, who have satellite internet in Juret al-Shyah in Homs, to upload to YouTube some videos of the protest that he filmed in al-Mal’ab neighborhood in Homs on the Friday that activists called “We are going to protest for Baba Amr”. On his way home, he had been hit by a mortar that ripped his body. Anass lost his lower body parts due to this shell fired by the Syrian regime forces. He had been then transported to al-Amal Hospital where there were hopes of saving his life, but as they have stopped bleeding from his legs the Syrian regime’s forces raided the hospital to abduct the victims. His comrades and members of the Free Syrian Army were able to transport him to a make-shift hospital. On their way to the make-shift hospital, regime snipers targeted them. Anas has died when they arrived at a make-shift hospital.

The last video filmed by Anas
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3x5vWCYnzs

Video showing the victim’s body
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nR7xTi7SWqs

Video showing the funeral procession of the victim
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYiCTTCOWZY

The activist’s photograph
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=321467574609391&set=a.253372941418855.58117.250521655037317&type=1&relevant_count=1

Another picture of Anas in the streets of his quarter in the city of Homs.
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=321467347942747&set=a.253372941418855.58117.250521655037317&type=1&relevant_count=1

Syrian Network for Human Rights – London &
Damascus Center for Human Rights Studies – Syria

SNHR:

Website: www.syrianhr.org

Email: press@syrianhr.org

DCHRS:

Website: www.dchrs.org

Email: info@dchrs.org

Anas, born in 1993, is a first year business administration student at al-Qalamoun University.
