{"id":314,"date":"2011-08-02T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2011-08-02T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","slug":"","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dchrs.org\/?p=314","title":{"rendered":"UN HUMAN RIGHTS CHIEF SAYS WORLD IS WATCHING CARNAGE IN SYRIA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n2 August 2011\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<strong>UN HUMAN RIGHTS CHIEF SAYS WORLD IS WATCHING CARNAGE IN<br \/>\nSYRIA<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\nGENEVA &ndash; UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay<br \/>\non Tuesday warned Syrian authorities that the world is bearing witness to the<br \/>\ngrave violence being perpetrated against the Syrian people, and urged them to<br \/>\nstop the bloodshed.\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\nShe expressed serious alarm at reports that at least 145<br \/>\npeople have been killed and many others injured since Friday. At least 120<br \/>\nindividuals are reported to have been killed in Hama through the use of tanks,<br \/>\nshelling and heavy machine guns. Several others have been killed in Deir Ez<br \/>\nZur, suburbs of Damascus and other towns and cities across Syria. The exact<br \/>\ndeath toll may be considerably higher.\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n&ldquo;The Government has been trying to keep the world blind<br \/>\nabout the alarming situation in the country by refusing access to foreign<br \/>\njournalists, independent human rights groups and to the fact-finding mission<br \/>\nmandated by the Human Rights Council,&rdquo; Ms. Pillay said.\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n&ldquo;But they are not succeeding. The world is watching and the<br \/>\ninternational community is gravely concerned. I stand in solidarity with<br \/>\npeaceful protestors who are demanding that the persistent violation of their<br \/>\nhuman rights ends now.
