On 14 June 2011, we submitted a<br \/>\nnew communication regarding a further 80 people who have been extra-judicially<br \/>\nexecuted by the security forces, some dying under torture to the Special<br \/>\nRapporteur on Extra-judicial, Summary or Arbitrary Executions. Alkarama was<br \/>\nalso able to collect information regarding three individuals who died under<br \/>\ntorture, including two minors, as described below:<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal\" class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<span>Mr Emran Dwaiq (<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'\">\u00da\u00e3\u00d1\u00c7\u00e4<\/span><span><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'\">\u00cf\u00e6\u00ed\u00df<\/span><span><\/span><span><\/span><span><span><\/span><span><\/span>), is a Syrian national. On 20 May 2011, Mr Dwaiq was<br \/>\nparticipating in a peaceful protest which took place in the city of Hama when<br \/>\nhe was shot in the leg by Syrian security forces. Mr Dwaiq then fell to the ground<br \/>\nin front of a restaurant in the Al Hadder region before being savagely beaten<br \/>\nto death by security forces who were wearing a mixture of civilian clothing and<br \/>\nuniform.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal\" class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=caAd9dgfAP4\">Click here to<br \/>\nsee the Video showing how Mr. Dwaiq was killed<\/a><\/span><span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"425\" height=\"349\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/caAd9dgfAP4\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal\" class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<span>Hamzeh Ali<br \/>\nAl-Khatib (<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'\">\u00cd\u00e3\u00d2\u00c9<\/span><span> <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'\">\u00da\u00e1\u00ed<\/span><span> <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'\">\u00c7\u00e1\u00ce\u00d8\u00ed\u00c8<\/span><span><\/span><span><\/span><span><span><\/span><span><\/span>), was 13 years old. On 29 April 2011, Hamzeh was arrested in<br \/>\nfront of the army barrier near Daraa, along with hundred of other people while<br \/>\nhe was walking from Aljeezah to attempt to break the siege on Daraa, being<br \/>\nmaintained by the Syrian security forces. Hamzeh and others in the group were<br \/>\narrested by the Syrian authorities, and Hamzeh subsequently disappeared until<br \/>\n25 May 2011, a month later, when his body was handed over to his family. His<br \/>\nfamily has declared that he was seriously tortured while being detained and<br \/>\nthat live ammunition was used on his body.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal\" class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PkkrP8LyUPk&amp;feature=player_embedded\">Click<br \/>\nhere to see a video showing traces of torture on Mr. Al-Khatib&#8217;s body<\/a><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"425\" height=\"349\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PkkrP8LyUPk\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal\" class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<span>Thamer Mohammed<br \/>\nAl-Shar&#8217;i ((<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'\">\u00cb\u00c7\u00e3\u00d1<\/span><span> <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'\">\u00e3\u00cd\u00e3\u00cf<\/span><span> <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'\">\u00c7\u00e1\u00d4\u00d1\u00da\u00ed<\/span><span><\/span><span><\/span><span><span><\/span><span><\/span>, was aged 15 years. On 29 April 2011, Thamer was arrested in<br \/>\nthe same circumstances as Hamzeh (the 13-year-old referred to above), and was<br \/>\nkilled under torture.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal\" class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?feature=player_embedded&amp;v=sglZylcyoag\">Click<br \/>\nhere to see a video showing traces of torture on Mr. Thamer&rsquo;s body<\/a><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"425\" height=\"349\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sglZylcyoag\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal\" class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<span>In the same<br \/>\ncorrespondence, we also informed the UN Special Procedures of the<br \/>\nextra-judicial execution of an additional 77 individuals in many regions<br \/>\nthroughout Syria, all of whom were killed between 20 and 21 May 2011. This list<br \/>\nincludes a number of minors, which is highly concerning. As with other cases<br \/>\nprovided to the UN in recent weeks, these deaths were the result of the<br \/>\nexcessive use of force by members of the Syrian security forces and the<br \/>\nmilitary against peaceful demonstrators who are calling for democratic change<br \/>\nin their country. Alkarama fears that further deaths may yet take place as<br \/>\npeaceful demonstrations continue throughout the country.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal\" class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<span>We are notably<br \/>\nconcerned that a number of mass graves have been uncovered throughout the<br \/>\ncountry, the last of which was discovered on 5 June 2011 in Hama, a city in<br \/>\nwhich more then 75 peaceful demonstrators were killed in a single day on 3 June<br \/>\n2011.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: normal\" class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<span>The international<br \/>\ncommunity should take action on behalf of the Syrian people and communicate to<br \/>\nthe Syrian government that their acts are contrary to international and<br \/>\ndomestic law.
