{"id":235,"date":"2011-04-30T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2011-04-30T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"-0001-11-30T00:00:00","slug":"","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dchrs.org\/?p=235","title":{"rendered":"Help stop the bloodshed in Syria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<strong>Help stop the bloodshed in Syria<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\nDear all,\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\nSyria&rsquo;s longstanding poor human rights situation has<br \/>\ndeteriorated sharply since mid March with the rise of largely peaceful<br \/>\nprotests, which similarly to elsewhere in the region have called for more<br \/>\npolitical freedoms, an end to corruption and increasingly for President Bashar<br \/>\nal-Assad to stand down.\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\nAmnesty International received numerous reports on how the<br \/>\nSyrian authorities used excessive force against protestors and others resulting<br \/>\nso far in the death of more than 400 people. The authorities also arbitrarily<br \/>\ndetained several hundred others of whom many reported after their release that<br \/>\nthey were tortured while detained. These apparently widespread and systematic<br \/>\nhuman rights violations are a shocking manifestation of Syria&rsquo;s disregard of<br \/>\nits people&rsquo;s rights and its obligations under the international law.
