\nto Syria which call for an end to killings, as well as for accountability,
\nprotection of human rights defenders and respect for freedom of expression,\n<\/p>\n
\nRepublic to take steps for reform, and urging the Syrian Arab Republic to take
\nurgent and concrete measures to meet the legitimate demands of its people,
\nincluding by enlarging the scope of political participation and dialogue,
\nfollowing through on the abolition of the High State Security Court and the
\nlifting of measures restricting the exercise of fundamental freedoms,\n<\/p>\n
\ninternational relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial
\nintegrity or political independence of any state, or in any other manner
\ninconsistent with the Purposes of the United Nations,\n<\/p>\n
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Unequivocally condemns the
\nuse of lethal violence against peaceful protestors by the Syrian authorities
\nand the hindrance of access to medical treatment and urges the Syrian
\nGovernment to immediately put an end to all human rights violations, protect
\nits population, and respect fully all human rights and fundamental freedoms, including
\nfreedom of expression and freedom of assembly; further urges the authorities to
\nallow <\/span>access to the Internet and
\ntelecommunications networks and to lift censorship on reporting, including by
\nallowing appropriate access by foreign journalists;\n<\/p>\n
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Calls upon the Syrian
\nGovernment to immediately release all prisoners of conscience and arbitrarily
\ndetained persons, including those who were detained before the recent events,
\nas well as to immediately cease any intimidation, persecution and arbitrary
\narrests of individuals, including lawyers, human rights defenders and
\njournalists;\n<\/p>\n
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Urges the Syrian
\nauthorities to refrain from any reprisals against people who have taken part in
\npeaceful demonstrations and to allow the provision of urgent assistance to
\nthose in need, including by guaranteeing appropriate access to human rights and
\nhumanitarian organizations;\n<\/p>\n
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Stresses the need for the
\nSyrian authorities to launch a credible and impartial investigation in
\naccordance with international standards and to prosecute those responsible for
\nattacks on peaceful protestors in the Syrian Arab Republic, including by forces
\nunder Government control;\n<\/p>\n
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Urges the Syrian
\nauthorities to enlarge the scope of political participation aimed at ensuring
\ncivil liberties and enhancing social justice;\n<\/p>\n
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Encourages relevant
\nthematic special-procedures mandate holders, within their respective mandates,
\nto pay particular attention to the human rights situation in Syria, and urges
\nSyrian authorities to cooperate with these thematic mandate-holders, including
\nby allowing country visits;\n<\/p>\n
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Requests the Office of the
\nHigh Commissioner for Human Rights to urgently dispatch a mission to the Syrian
\nArab Republic to investigate all alleged violations of international human
\nrights law and to establish the facts and circumstances of such violations and
\nof the crimes perpetrated, with a view to avoiding impunity and ensuring full
\naccountability, and to provide a preliminary report and oral update on the
\nsituation of human rights in the Syrian Arab Republic to the Council at its
\nseventeenth session, and to submit a follow-up report to the Council at its
\neighteenth session, and further requests the High Commissioner to organize an
\ninteractive dialogue on the situation of human rights in the Syrian Arab
\nRepublic during the eighteenth session of the Council;\n<\/p>\n

\nGovernment to cooperate fully with and grant access to personnel from the
