The Euro-Mediterranean Human<br \/>\nRights Network (EMHRN) vigorously denounces the arbitrarily arrest and detention<br \/>\nof Mr. Danial Saoud, President of the Committees for the Defence of Democracy,<br \/>\nFreedoms and Human Rights in Syria (CDF) on Saturday 23 April.\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\nMr. Danial Saoud, a prominent human rights defender in Syria<br \/>\nand member of Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network Executive Committee, was<br \/>\narrested around 6:00 pm on Saturday 23 April in his home in Banyas, by unknown,<br \/>\nand he is now held incommunicado. Prior to his arrest, M. Danial Saoud has been<br \/>\nrepeatedly summoned by security services and questioned on his human rights<br \/>\nactivities.\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\nThe president of Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network<br \/>\nKamel Jendoubi said &ldquo;We are extremely worried about the situation of M. Danial<br \/>\nSaoud. We fear that he may be subjected to acts of torture or ill-treatments,<br \/>\nas we know these practices have been widely used during the past weeks. The<br \/>\nSyrian authorities should immediately and unconditionally proceed to his<br \/>\nliberation.&rdquo;\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\nThe Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network expresses its<br \/>\ndeepest concern as the crackdown carried out by the Syrian authorities on human<br \/>\nrights defenders and peaceful demonstrators continues.
