The Assad regime continues to commit human rights violations against its people, and has constantly disregarded international treaties and conventions for the protection of civilians in armed conflict.

The Damascus Center for Human Rights confirms that the Syrian regime has committed human rights violations in the three massacres, classified as “war crimes” under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, Article 8, section (a), clause (i), and section b, clauses (i) and (ii). These may also be viewed as “crimes against humanity” under the same statute, through article 8, section 1, various clauses. The evidence indicates an unending series of massacres perpetrated by the Syrian regime and targeting civilians in residential areas devoid of opposition fighters or building utilized by them. These take place at times when armed clashes are not occurring, suggesting that it is the intention of the regime to brutally target civilians.

It is a principle of the international coalition to protect, and by monitoring and documenting human rights violations in Syria, the Damascus Center for Human Rights Studies renews its appeals to the international community to intervene at once to stop the bloodshed of Syrian civilians – in particular that of women and children, who suffer most from the regime’s crimes. The Damascus Center for Human Rights Studies also renews its demands that all those responsible for these crimes be referred to the appropriate courts.

Damascus Center for Human Rights Studies

 26/10/2014

For more information, please contact
Dr. Radwan Ziadeh, Executive director of the Damascus Center for Human Rights Studies.
Phone (571) 205-3590
Email : radwan.ziadeh@gmail.com

Mr. Mojahed Ghadban, Communication Officer.
Telephone (479) 799-8115
Email: info@dchrs.org

DCHRS is an independent, non-governmental organization, established in 2005, located in the Syrian capital of Damascus.
