The Syrian regime has used its warplanes to target IDPs gatherings that were staying in different schools in Der Ezzor.

The Syrian regime perpetrated a massacre in Der Ezzor province targeting civilians. Der Ezzor province is controlled by ISIS or IS (Islamic State), and the Syrian regime didn’t target this IS militias, instead Syrian forces targeted the innocent civilians who are suffering from the siege imposed by IS.

On September 7, 2014 at about 10:00 PM, the Syrian regime MiG warplanes targeted a civilians gathering near a market in Der Ezzor suburb – Al-Mayadien city. This airstrike was in conjunction with another massacre. The other massacre occurred after an airstrike targeted a school, where IDPs from Ash-Sh’ytat villages were staying, to kill 22 Syrians at least; most of whom were displaced women and children.

DCHRS activists noted that the wounded were transferred to the field-hospitals that became overwhelmed with wounded people. Furthermore, the airstrike destroyed the school partially.

Shortly after, one civilian was killed by another airstrike that targeted Al-Kharita village in Der Ezzor suburb on the same day. There were no military targets for these airstrikes and that indicates how civilians were targeted deliberately and directly by the Syrian regime.

DCHRS documented 22 victims; most of whom were displaced women and children:
1- Jamal Mohammad Az-Zaghir, from Der Ezzor – Al-Mry’iya.
2- Awwad Rajab Al-Khaled, from Der Ezzor – Ash-Shahil.
3- Awwad Rajab Al-Khaled, from Der Ezzor – Ash-Shahil.
4- Child Ibrahim Khadr Ash-Shadhan., form Der Ezzor – Al-Mayadien.
5- Child Ali Khadr Ash-Shadhan, from Der Ezzor – Al-Mayadien.
6- Amina Ash-Sh’ibi, from Der Ezzor – Al-Mayadien.
7- Ahmad Khadr Ash-Shadhan, from Der Ezzor – Al-Mayadien.
8- Saleh Mohammad Amer Al-Hussein, from Der Ezzor – Al-Kharita.
9- Child Ayham Shokour Al-Farhan, from Der Ezzor – Abu-Hammam.
10- Ahmad Khalif Ar-Raihan, from Der Ezzor – Abu-Hardoub.
11- Abdulmajid Eid Al-Mashouh, from Der Ezzor – Abu-Hardoub.
12- Child Majoud Ein Al-Mashouh, from Der Ezzor – Abu-Hardoub.
13- Victim called Sara, Abdulwahhab Al-Eid Al-Mashouh’s wife, from Der Ezzor – Abu-Hardoub.
14- Laila Ar-Rabea, from Der Ezzor – Abu-Hardoub.
15- Unidentified female child, Shafi Al-Yousuf’s daughter, from Der Ezzor – Abu-Hardoub.
16- Victim called Zahiya, Ajil Al-Yoususf’s wife, from Der Ezzor – Abu-Hardoub.
17- Unidentified female child, Hammadi Al-Yousuf’s daughter, from Der Ezzor – Abu-Hardoub.
18- Unidentified female child, Hammadi Al-Yousuf’s daughter, from Der Ezzor – Abu-Hardoub.
19- Unidentified child, Hammadi Al-Yousuf’s daughter, from Der Ezzor – Abu-Hardoub.
20- Ibrahim As-Sarhan, from Der Ezzor – Al-Mayadien.
21- Ali As-Sarhan, from Der Ezzor – Al-Mayadein.
22- Ahmad Shawi Ash-Shadkhan, from Der Ezzor – Al-Mayadien.

We, as a Human Rights NGO, condemn this blatant and explicit violation of the relevant international laws and covenants. These continuous attacks on civil and areas by the Syrian regime are serious desecrations of the International Humanitarian Law. The International Community should address these violations and improve its “responsibility to protect” policy.

DCHRS urges the concerned human rights groups to take immediate action in order to stop these explicit continuous violations of the international covenants which state that schools and displaced shelters are to be protected during armed conflicts.

Damascus Center for Human Rights Studies

07/09/2014

For more information, please contact
Dr. Radwan Ziadeh, Executive director of the Damascus Center for Human Rights Studies.
Phone (571) 205-3590
Email : radwan.ziadeh@gmail.com

Mr. Mojahed Ghadban, Communication Officer.
Telephone (479) 799-8115
Email: info@dchrs.org

DCHRS is an independent, non-governmental organization, established in 2005, located in the Syrian capital of Damascus. Such projects included daily casualty reports, massacre reports, and other human rights violations reports. Also DCHRS has been working on advocacy and lobbying in different human rights institutions in order to educate and acknowledge about the deteriorating human rights situation in Syria.. After the launch of the Syrian revolution, the center increased its activities through working, communicating, and coordinating with many members and activists. Thus the center began documenting daily violations committed by the Syrian regime forces that can be classified as crimes against humanities and war crimes. Such violations included: extrajudicial killings, massacres, arbitrary detentions, enforced disappearances, rape, torture in prisons. DCHRS opened local offices in Syria in order to document, collect, and observe human rights violations on the ground. DCHRS submitted those reports to many international and regional human rights organizations and communicated with the Report of the independent international commission of inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic on Syria.

The Syrian regime continues to perpetrate more crimes, including crimes against humanity, genocides, and systematic war crimes, amid an utter international silence.
