Damascus Center for Human Rights Studies on documented Wednesday 20-02-2013 (159) one hundred and fifty nine victims who were killed in several cities across Syria, mostly in Damascus and its suburb. Also the center documented six other victims who were killed in previous days.

In Damascus and its suburb: Ninety-four victims, and in Daraa sixteen victims, and in Aleppo: Fifteen victims, in Homs: Twelve victims, in Idlib Eleven victims, in Al-Raqqa: Five victims, in Deir Ezzor: Three victims, in Al-Hasaka , Hama and Al-Quneitra: One victim each.

Syrian Doctors to soon be sentenced

URGENT ACTION – February 19, 2013

Dr Mahmoud Al Refaai and Dr Mohamad Osama Al-Baroudi, arrested in Syria on 16 and 18 February 2012 respectively, were referred to a Military Field Court in September 2012 on unknown charges. It is feared that they may shortly be sentenced after an unfair trial, without recourse to appeal mechanisms.

Where is human rights lawyer Khalil Maatouk?

Mr. Khalil Maatouk, a human rights lawyer who has defended numerous prisoners of conscience before Syrian courts, was arrested with a friend by armed men on October 2, 2012 at a checkpoint in Sahnaya (in the countryside outside of Damascus). Since then, no further information could be obtained regarding his situation and whereabouts.

Fear for physical and psychological integrity, Mazen Naji

The Observatory has been informed by reliable sources about the arbitrary arrest and incommunicado detention of Mr. Mazen Naji, a college student also known as Abu Hamza al-Shami, a member of the Syrian Network for Human Rights and an activist in the Syrian peace movement who has been monitoring human rights violations occurring within the country, as well as four of his relatives.
